I have taste tested many a brand of hummus and have become quite picking. I don’t like an aftertaste, nor preservatives. I like it smooth and creamy, almost begging to be dipped in. After I saved for my Vitamix blender, I began experimenting to find the perfect hummus recipe. Here is my all-time favorite.
All-Time Favorite Hummus
- 2 cans of garbanzo beans, one drained, one with liquid
- 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds
- 1 Tbs Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup Lemon Juice
- 1 Garlic clove
- Red Pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- sea salt
Optional Roasting – You can roast the sunflower seeds, garlic and red pepper in the oven for 5-7 minutes to draw out the flavor a bit. I have done it both ways, and often skip this step to save time.
Place all ingredients (except salt) into the Vitamix blender. A regular blender will also work but not have the smoothness of the high powered Vitamix.
Turn on Variable 1 and quickly turn knob to 10. Then switch to high for 1 minute, tampering it as necessary.
Add salt.
Enjoy with crackers, veggies, or even pretzels. For more recipes, check out my recipe boards on Pinterest.
Is there a reason that you did not add the sesame paste that most recipes call for.?
Yes, because that is not something I buy. I usually have sesame seeds in my pantry. The original vitamix recipe that I began experimenting from used seeds. I think the power of a vitamix blender probably turns the seeds into a paste though.
Oh, thank you. It is sunflower seeds.
